California Dreaming
We are getting ready for a trip to California. An old fashioned kind of trip where we drive in a car, ( no RV yet). The plan is to tent camp along the way.

Does anyone do that anymore?

We have become such a fast paced society. Everyone is always in a such hurry.
I myself like the to think of the old adage:

"It's not the destination, but the journey that counts."

I love the journey, the adventure, the sights, and the deep inhalation of nature.

Do you love the Retro wood box above?  It's a vintage California souvenir box. A simpler time of sun, sand and surf. Find it HERE.

Annemarie Davidson - Copper Enamelist

This spectacular copper enameled plate was done by artist, Annemarie Davidson. Her mark is on the back. When I purchased this plate, I did so because it was beautiful! I had no idea of who the artist behind it was.
I say was, because sadly, Annemarie passed Sept. 29th, 2012. After researching her and her fabulous work, I realized she was a person I would have loved to have known.
She loved her family, was generous and eccentric. Me too. I am like that.
As you can see, by this plate,  she was an extremely talented artist in the world of copper enameling. This Cockatiel sits among it's natural setting. She did many beautiful bird and flower plates. You can see some of her work, HERE.
I searched and searched for another Cockatiel but could not find one.
There will be no more of her wonderful work. No more. That makes me sad.

This is Annemarie's obituary:

DAVIDSON, AnnemarieAnnemarie Davidson passed away peacefully in her Sierra Madre home of 60 years on September 24th after a brief illness. She was known for her love of her family and her talent as a copper enamelist. Born in 1920 in Germany, Annemarie arrived in New York in 1936 and moved to Sierra Madre in 1946. Her late husband, Norman Davidson, was a Caltech professor and a pioneering scientist in the field of microbiology. She is survived by her four children, 8 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Many people knew her as the artist behind the copper enamels, shown in local stores, presented at local art festivals, featured in several museums, and treasured in countless homes. We will all miss her eccentric and generous personality and her presence in Sierra Madre.

If you should desire to purchase this plate, you can do so HERE

I Love Horses!

 See the shop here!
I grew up on westerns. "The Lone Ranger", "Rifleman", "Roy Rogers", "Red Ryder" and "Gunsmoke". This list can go on and on.
I knew how to make every horse sound! When I was little, my favorite toys were my stable of stick horses, my cap guns, my Marx Fort Apache set and my Lincoln Logs! No dolls for this Cowgirl!  I'll never forget the day my Dad brought home a couple of Shetland ponies. I thought I had died and gone to heaven! Every waking minute after that was spent learning to ride those wild little things. Bumps and bruises ensued and once, I was even bucked off in a Thistle patch! I loved every minute and by the time I was done, there was no horse I couldn't ride. Dad said, " I was a natural!"
Today,  I own 2 fine Quarter horses. My love of horses never died.
I recently brought home this beautiful brass Mustang horse figurine. It was unloved and tarnished.
With a little patience and a lot of elbow grease later, here it is in all it's spectacular glory!
I have no room for it in my overloaded stable of horse figurines so perhaps you might like to add it to yours!
It has a very Hollywood Regency look to it.
You can see it HERE
Happy Trails my friends.
